Sims 4 Premium membership to offer early DLC access

EA has let slip plans to introduce a Sims 4 Premium membership, with the subscription service to offer eager gamers early access to a range of DLC content.

Suggesting the game will adopt a ‘premium’ membership scheme similar to that of the company’s own FPS hit Battlefield, EA has referenced ‘The Sims 4 Premium’ in the game’s latest teaser video.

Although yet to be officially announced, the mention of the premium service popped up briefly during a 15 minute gameplay walkthrough with the game’s producers – Ryan Vaughan and Graham Nardone – with a description of the benefits premium members will receive.

“Become a Premium member to get early access to 3 new packs, with exclusive items,” the teasing leak reads.

EA added: “Your Sims can throw a spooky costume party, camp in the great outdoors, and toast to the New Year in style.”

At present it is unclear exactly how long the periods of exclusivity will be for Premium members will be, what the trio of DLC content packs will feature and how much a Premium membership will set gamers back.

Despite the possible introduction of a Premium membership option, EA recently confirmed that the Sims 4 will be missing a number of key features when the game launches later this year – namely toddlers and swimming pools.

“We owe you a clearer explanation for why pools and toddlers will not be in The Sims 4 at launch,” Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer on The Sims 4 said earlier this month in addressing a public outcry at the omissions.

“The vision for The Sims 4 is a new experience that brings your Sims to life in deeper and uniquely personal ways – through emotions, personality traits, behaviours and interactions. To do that, our technology base needed a major upgrade.”

She added: “The bottom line is that when we sat down and looked at everything we wanted to do for this game, all the new tech we wanted to build into it, the fact was that there would be trade-offs, and these would disappoint some of our fans.”
