The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be more expensive that its iPhone 5 rival when snapped up on a SIM-free basis, newly released Samsung Galaxy S4 prices have revealed.

With Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders kicking into action today, March 28, a selection of network providers and smartphone retailers have revealed their Samsung Galaxy S4 price plans, a move that has revealed the S3 follow-on will be around £70 more expensive than its similarly specced Apple rival.

Speaking with TrustedReviews, high street smartphone retailer Phones 4u has revealed that the entry level, 16GB storage capacity SIM-free Samsung Galaxy S4 will set wannabe owners back just a penny shy of £600. Although Apple is renowned for its premium prices, Samsung’s latest smartphone powerhouse has made its biggest rival seem positively cheap with the 16GB iPhone 5 costing £529 SIM-free.

Despite this wallet-busting price point, the leading retailer has suggested it does not anticipate the fee will put off many users making the jump to the new 5-inch, 1.9GHz quad-core handset.

“Anticipation for the upcoming release of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 is really escalating and we’re excited about it hitting the store floors next month,” Phones 4u Chief Commercial Officer Scott Hooton said. “In the pre-registration period alone, interest for the Samsung Galaxy S4 has surpassed the interest for its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S3, as well as the iPhone 4S, which until now did hold the record for the highest volume of pre-registrations at Phones 4u.”

For those not wanting the near £600 initial outlay for the Samsung Galaxy S4, Phones 4u, as well as a raft of other leading retailers and networks, have confirmed they will offer the device free on premium two-year contracts.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs

Formally unveiled in New York City earlier this month, the Samsung Galaxy S4 specs sheet sees the handset line up as a true leader of the smartphone scene.

Although the UK will not benefit from the 1.6GHz eight-core processor previously tipped for British shores, the Samsung Galaxy S4 CPU will see a 1.9GHz quad-core offering line up alongside 2GB of RAM and the option of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage options.

With a 5-inch Super AMOLED display lining up on the front of the 7.9mm thick handset’s body, the handset’s display is bolstered by a 1080p Full HD resolution, 441 pixels-per-inch image density and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective coating.

On top of this, the Samsung Galaxy S4 features list sees a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera further enhanced by a second, 2-megapixel snapper up front. Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS runs the show.
