Sid Meier’s Starships to launch early this year

2K Games and Firaxis have announced Sid Meier’s Startships will arrive early this year.

Sid Meier’s Starships is a brand new turn-based title from Firaxis Games that will be available on PC, Mac and iPad in “early 2015”.

The game will ask you to command a fleet of starships as they carry out missions across the galaxy. Your aim is build a federation to bring peace to the galaxy as you protect the planets and their inhabitants.

You’ll need to expand your federation’s influence and domain, while researching futuristic technology to build your customisable starships.

Of course, you’ll also be required to engage in turn-based space combat with your fleet.

“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,” said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. “What happens after we colonise our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy and exploration.”

Each campaign in Sid Meier’s Starships will use its own galactic strategy map with dynamically created combat missions, making sure you’ll want to play through campaigns again.

Anyone who has already purchased Sid Meier’s Civilisation: Beyond Earth will also discover cross-connectivity between that title and the upcoming Starships.

“Sid has been a leader in the strategy and PC gaming market for more than 30 years,” said 2K President, Christoph Hartmann. “After successfully launching an experience touching upon mankind’s history on Earth, fans will now see how Sid has used the Civilization: Beyond Earth universe to deliver his own unique style of strategic gaming.”
