Sharp is selling an 8K TV you probably can’t afford

While plenty of us are still waiting for the price of 4K TVs to come down, Sharp’s already onto the next big thing.

Sharp is now selling a ludicrously high-resolution 8K television. Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

The firm showed off the Aquos LC-80XU930X at the CES 2016 tradeshow in Las Vegas earlier this year, but the beastly TV set is now officially available for purchase.

But there are two major caveats, the first of which is that the TV is only going on sale “initially” in Asia.

The second is that Sharp’s 8K television will set you back a staggering $16,000.

That’s fine for those with money to burn, but the majority of us won’t be splashing that kind of cash on a TV any time soon.

Surprisingly, 8K TVs were a bit of a trend at this year’s CES, with both Samsung and LG showing off their 8K wares.

However, 4K content has yet to truly take off in the mainstream, so it’s unlikely an 8K TV owner will have anything to watch in that resolution.

For owners of Sharp’s new tele, users will at least be able to display super high-resolution photographs using the panel.

It’s worth noting that Sharp’s TV is technically a 4K panel, but it uses the company’s Quattron technology, which splits pixels into four – voila, 8K.

Other perks of the TV include an Android operating system and 8K upscaling.

Would you be willing to splash $16,000 on an 8K TV this year? Let us know why – and what medication you forgot to take – in the comments below.
