Technology is taking over, and now our beloved gadgets are infiltrating – and even enabling – some of the most significant events in our lives, a new study has suggested.

Having questioned 1,000 Brits, the poll by chocolate maker Elizabeth Shaw has shown that it’s no longer just getting hitched and having kids that we consider life-changing events (via: Mirror).

Now, our tech-laden lives are being enhanced by seemingly mundane happenings such as hitting 100 Twitter followers and buying a tablet.

That’s not where our tech-obsessed self-fulfilment ends, either.

Creating a YouTube video and taking a selfie with a celebrity are also considered ‘achievements’ worthy of the 50 most special moments of our increasingly goalless lives.

“Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a special moment,” Hayley Coggins of Elizabeth Shaw said.

She added: “For all ages, whatever it was meant something because it will be remembered fondly as a special moment for the rest of their lives.”

Topping the list of life goals was – as you might expect – getting married, followed by passing your driving test. Buying your first house, receiving a pay rise and a family Christmas all made the top ten.

It’s not just selfies and social media that have become such an integral part of our lives, however.

Getting your first mobile phone, being sent a text by a potential love interest and receiving an email for the first time also made the list, highlighting our growing dependence on tech.
