See.Sense Icon is a connected bike light

Be safe, be seen

There's plenty of smart bike tech around at the minute, but the humble light has been mostly left alone. This is a smart light that connects to your phone.

It's called See.Sense Icon, and is the company's second smart bike light. Pair it with your phone over Bluetooth, and you can control it from your handset. You can check your battery level, change it from flashing to constant light, customise it to optimise brightness/run-time using a slider, control multiple lights at once and set it to switch off after three minutes of inactivity or if you walk more than three metres away.

It also doubles as a safety feature. It'll send you a theft alert if anyone tries to steal your bike, and send a text to your nominated contact should the unthinkable happen and you have a crash.

You charge it via USB. Five hours will give a run-time of 15 hours, which should last most commuters a week.

It's smart too. It can detect when you approach a junction, roundabout, or even car headlights at night and flash faster, making your more visible.

And if you don't fancy unlocking your smartphone to control it, it has manual controls too, so you can switch it on or off as you would a normal light.

You can pick up a single light for £39, or the front and rear for £74. But these are early bird rewards, so be quick. It's passed its funding goal and will ship in January.
