Only a prototype for now.
We’ve seen our share of short throw projectors, but the Sanyo’s latest, which it has shown off in Japan, is particularly noteworthy, offering a Full HD, 1080p resolution with a rather impressive throw ratio.
A throw ratio of 0.28 means the projector can produce a 100in image on a surface from a mere 23.6in (~2ft) away and a 150in image at a distance of 37in (~3.1ft). Add to that brightness of 7,000 lumens, which Sanyo claims as a world’s best, thanks to the three-panel RGB laser DLP tech powering the projector and, of course, that 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution.
The downsides? For a start there’s no word on whether the prototype projector is planned to become a real product, or how much it would cost if it was! And at 2370mm × 510mm × 630mm in size, it’s definitely not one for the average home.
Nonetheless, it’s an interesting sign of we can expect from Sanyo in the future. Let’s just hope the technology is shrinkable.
