SanDisk reveals monstrous 1TB SD card – 4x more storage than the best iPhone 7
Earlier this year, Seagate unveiled the world’s first 60TB SSD, and it seems the race for ever more ridiculous storage options is far from over. Meet SanDisk’s new 1TB SD card, which offers more storage than four of the best iPhone 7s money can buy.
SanDisk has debuted a new prototype SD card with a whopping 1TB of storage capacity – equivalent to four-and-a-bit of the highest-end iPhone 7 models and likely more than your desktop PC or laptop.
The 1TB SDXC manages to double the storage on SanDisk’s previous 512GB card, which until now was the largest in the world.
And while the 1TB offering is unlikely to be released any time soon, with no pricing or release details provided by SanDisk, it’s undeniably an impressive feat.

SanDisk owner Western Digital points out, it was only 16 years ago that the company introduced the 64MB card, before debuting the 512GB version two years ago.
In a statement, Dinesh Bahal, Vice President of Product Management at Western Digital, said: “The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.”
Western Digital plans to show off its new card at the Photokina photography show this week.
