Samsung working on completely new smartphone line

Samsung S5

Samsung is apparently planning a new smartphone handset line with a simple single-letter designation.

Last week, the South Korean manufactured unveiled a new Galaxy A series of premium-feeling but mid-specced Android phones.

Now, according to Sammobile, Samsung is following suit with a brand new line of smartphones with a similarly simple designation.

Of course, Samsung has had the Galaxy S series for some years now, but international variations have taken a turn for the absurd with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. It seems as if Samsung is cleaning up its act by ditching such elaborate naming conventions.

As the report points out, this could mean the end to all those Ace, Young, Core, Grand, Mega and Max models that we've seen over the years.

It's all change at Samsung, it seems, after recently reporting its worst quarterly smartphone performance in some time. The aforementioned Galaxy A range, which includes the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A3, joined the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in showing that Samsung had finally adopted metal into its designs.

Meanwhile, there are rumours that the company is working on a Project Zero flagship phone, which will represent a complete redesign from the ground up. The Samsung Galaxy S5 received some criticism earlier in the year for not really being all that different in design from the Samsung Galaxy S4, so expect the Samsung Galaxy S6 to do things a little differently.
