While we are all familiar with the Samsung vs Apple patent disputes, a new player seems to be getting in on the act with Dyson confirming it intends to sue Samsung over claimed patent infringements.
With Samsung producing everything from smartphones and tablets to washing machines and vacuum cleaners, the South Korean manufacturer has ruffled a few feathers over the years, with vacuum and fan specialist Dyson now suggesting the company has infringements on its intellectual property rights.
Suggesting that the new Samsung Motion Sync vacuum cleaner range infringes on its patented vacuum steering mechanisms, Dyson has issued proceedings against the Samsung Galaxy S4 manufacturing tech giant with the English High Court.
“
He added: “We have been forced to issue proceedings in the English High Court, but I would much rather invest in research to develop new technology than have to sue.” The filing with the High Court was placed on August 29.
While the well publicised disputes between Apple and Samsung have largely focussed on design rights and the similarities between the iPhone and iPad and Samsung’s collection of Galaxy branded smartphones and tablets, the company’s legal case with Dyson focusses on the claimed copying of patented technologies.
Entitled “A cleaning appliance with a steering mechanism,” the detailed Dyson patent covers the Ball technology at the heart of many of the company’s vacuums. The patented system was first introduced in the Dyson DC37 and DC39.
Dyson has something of a reputation for protecting its patented technologies by any means and the company current holds 350 global patents.
Responding to the legal action, an official Samsung spokesperson stated: ““The Samsung Motion Sync is an outcome of our own extensive research and development. We will take all necessary measures, including legal action, to protect our technological innovation against Dyson’s groundless claims.”
