Acquisitions happen all the time in the technosphere, but this is one that won’t be coming to fruition.
Samsung has confirmed it has no plans to buy Jay Z’s Tidal music streaming service.
The news follows an “exclusive” report published by Variety that claimed Samsung was “considering” buying Tidal.
The report went on to suggest that Samsung wanted to use Tidal to replace the tech giant’s soon-to-be-shuttered Milk Music.
In the wake of the report, however, a Samsung spokesperson gave the following comment:
“We think it is important to clarify on-the-record for you and your readers that the rumour of Samsung acquiring Tidal is not true.”

It’s worth noting that Samsung didn’t deny allegations that Milk Music would be shut down, however.
Milk Music was originally intended to be a competitor to Pandora, but has seen little uptake.
What’s more, Samsung already shut down sister service Milk Video in 2015, only one year after it launched.
In a comment to Variety, the company said: “Samsung remains committed to delivering engaging, connected entertainment experiences through our Milk platform.”
