Samsung targets iPad mini with 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 unveiling

Following the recent Samsung Galaxy S4 release the South Korean manufacturer has set its sights on bringing down the iPad mini with the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 formally unveiling.

Given and understated outing via the company’s official website, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is set to play host to a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU as well as the now very familiar combination of Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS topped with the Samsung TouchWiz UI.

“With the new Galaxy Tab 3, Samsung has evolved its range of innovative tablets, making them smaller and easier to carry, while increasing the user experience overall,” an official spokesperson for the company stated.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Specs

Far from the market leading powerhouse we have come to expect after the Galaxy S4 launch, the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is very much a run of the mill device with the device’s 1.2GHz dual-core CPU seeing it lag behind some of its quad-core rivals including the Google Nexus 7.

Continuing Samsung’s trend of launching largely plastic, less than aesthetically pleasing gadgets, the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 follows in a similar vein with a white plastic shell featuring curved edges and an overall finish akin to that of the MWC announced Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

Pairing its dual-core CPU with a further collection of mediocre innards, the iPad mini challenger of sorts sees its 7-inch, 1024 x 600p TFT touchscreen display paired with 1GB or RAM and the option of 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, both expandable via microSD.

Lining up at 9.9mm thick and 302g in weight, the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, which is set to be made available in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi plus 3G forms, adds a lacklustre 3-megapixel rear-mounted camera alongside a second, 1.3-megapixel snapper up front. Keeping things running along, a 4000mAh Lithium-Ion battery is included under the hood.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Release Date and Price
Confirming the imminent Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 release date without being too firm on specifics, the Apple and Asus rival has revealed that the Wi-Fi iteration of the 7-inch tablet will hit retailers from early May whilst the 3G option will be held off until June.

Confirmed Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 pricing is still to be announced.
