Laptop manufacturers are trying everything to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace and in a bid to do just that, Samsung has strapped some solar panels to its latest model.
The NC215s 10in netbook will allow you to keep on typing even when the battery runs out by using the solar panels which have been incorporated into the lid. Although we’re not sure there will be many situations when you will need this if Samsung’s claims of a 14 hour battery life from the six-cell 40Wh battery, prove to be accurate.
The laptop had been expected to land in the US on 3 July but over a week later there was no sign of the environmentally friendly PC until Amazon decided to put it up for pre-order yesterday evening for $399. There is still no shipping date mentioned and whether the laptop will ever actually make it to the US is still up for debate, with no official word from Samsung.
Other specs for the portable laptop include an Atom N570 CPU, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 1GB of DDR3 memory, 25GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter. Samsung has also announced the NC110, which is identical to the NC215s but without the solar panels and is also on pre-order on Amazon for $329.
