Samsung said to be considering leadership shake-up

Samsung’s is reportedly considering a shake-up at the top of its leadership ladder following disappointing financial results.

It hasn’t been an easy year for the world’s biggest electronics manufacturer, with competition from China intensifying – particularly in mobile, where Samsung continues to make most of its money.

As a result, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Samsung is planning to radically change its leadership structure.

One scenario said to be under discussion is the removal of mobile chief J.K. Shin from his role. This could also see Shin losing his co-CEO position within the company.

Instead, another company co-CEO, B.K. Yoon, would take over Samsung’s mobile division. Yoon currently runs Samsung’s home appliance and television business, and would apparently add this mobile oversight to his existing duties.

Of course, this dual role would also position Samsung well for the impending boom in smart and connected home technology, of which the company has taken a particular interest in 2014. Yoon is said to have been one of the driving forces behind Samsung’s efforts in the field to date, which saw the company acquiring US company SmartThings earlier in the year.

In case you were wondering, there’s a third Samsung co-CEO, components chief Kwon Oh-Hyun, who should keep his current role.

Apparently, this reshuffle decision isn’t final, but it looks as if’s J.K. Shin’s spell as the king of smartphones is all but over.
