Samsung’s wireless charging pad for Note 5 and S6 Edge+ hits preorders

When Samsung announced the pocket-stretching Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ smartphones last week, they boasted of a nifty new fast-charging capability, allowing device owners to replenish their cell quicker than before.

Now the company has outed a new Fast Charging Wireless Pad designed to take advantage of that tech, aimed at those who not only want a speedy battery top up, but want it without the hassle of cables.

Samsung says the Qi-enabled pad, which is available in black and white, can reduce the total charging time (form 0-100 per cent) of the devices by 50 minutes.

The company says the pad closes the gap in speed between wireless and wireless charging and offers the bonus of replenishing any Qi-enabled gadget you have in your tech arsenal.

The pad is available to pre-order now from Samsung’s website for $70, but it might be a while before it’s sitting on the desks or coffee tables of Note 5 and S6 Edge+ as it’s already on back order. There’s no sign of it on the UK site yet either.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ arrives in the UK on September 4, while pre-orders opened on August 18.

It still looks a long shot that Brits will ever be able to get their paws on the Galaxy Note 5, which isn’t schedule for a UK release at present.

We’ve gone hands on with both devices and will have full, in-depth reviews in due course.
