Samsung’s already bringing Note 7 software features to other devices

In a bid to salvage what it can from the complete meltdown – in almost literal terms – of its Note 7 launch debacle, the company has started to roll out features found on the device to other handsets, like the S7 and S7 Edge.

It makes sense that Samsung will want to appease any customers it has managed to convince to stick with the brand by making the transition to an S7 or S7 Edge as painless as possible and part of that is replacing the functionality that’s missing between the devices.

always on display

In this case, the first step has been to bring the always-on display feature to the S7 stable, though you might want to hold off on installing it as it’s reportedly breaking notification for third-party apps, and Samsung’s own email app.

While it’ll be some small consolation, along with the monetary incentives offered to stick with Samsung phones, anyone that did previously own a Note 7 shouldn’t expect the full feature set to roll out. For that, the handsets would need to be designed to work with a stylus, and they weren’t.

Still, if you’ve made the leap backwards (arguably, the S7 is still a great phone though) and are jonesing for that always-on display, now it can be yours.

You can install the update through Galaxy Apps or by downloading the APK directly from the XDA Developers forum.
