Samsung’s 5G tests clock in 30 times faster than 4G

The results are in from Samsung’s 5G network tests, with the firm now announcing it’s hit speeds of up to 7.5Gbps.

That sort of download pace translates to somewhere around 940MB of data every single second.

Samsung reckons it’s the fastest 5G data transmission rate in the world so far, at least while in a stationary environment.

Chang Yeong Kim, Samsung’s R&D boss, says they’re testing the new tech for the long haul as demand for 5G ‘will continue to grow’.

“We will continue to build upon these milestones and develop advanced technologies that contribute to the 5G standard,” says Kim.

“We will also co-operate with other industry leaders and research centres across the world.’

The tech firm’s also boasted that its latest tests were conducted outside, instead of an indoor lab like most other firms trial 5G in.

While the new speeds might not be wholly representative of real world data transmission rates, the fact that testing took place outside is at least somewhat closer to a natural usage environment.

Samsung also tested a ‘mobile environment’ by trialling 5G download speeds in a moving car. The result? An impressive 150MB every second at 100km/h.

Currently there’s no accepted standard for 5G networking, so there’s still plenty of time for speeds to improve above and beyond Samsung’s latest test figures.
