Samsung’s latest attempt to lure iPhone users has proved a little too popular, with initial supplies of its Ultimate Test Drive handsets running dry within hours.
Earlier on Friday, Samsung’s American arm had announced an initiative offering iPhone users the chance to use a Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6 Edge+ for 30 days for a $1 dollar commitment.
The no-obligation offer included a phone and an active SIM card with the promise of “even more love” if the test driver bought a qualifying Samsung phone.
The scheme was hatched with the knowledge a relatively large proportion of iPhone customers’ contracts will be up for renewal at this time of year, giving the Korean giant an opportunity to swoop in.
Now all of the allotted stocks have been snapped up, with Samsung now scrambling to restock before Apple’s next iPhone launch on September 9.
“The response to our Ultimate Test Drive has been overwhelming and exceeded our expectations,” a Samsung spokesperson told Re/code.

While Samsung probably hadn’t allocated enough stock to satisfy demand, the company will be buoyed by the news so many iPhone users are open to making the switch.
Both the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ offer plenty of promise following a launch event in mid-August, whole the existing Galaxy S6 is also a winner.
