Samsung reveals Galaxy S8 details, teases improved camera

Eager to move on from the Note 7 fiasco, following a disastrous quarter that saw the company’s profits take a massive hit, Samsung is putting a lot into making sure the upcoming Galaxy S8 is a hit.

So far, rumours have hinted at a full-face OLED display, along with the usual bump in hardware, but now the company has revealed a few choice details about the phone.

Samsung’s Vice Chairman Lee Jae-Yong has revealed (via the Wall Street Journal) the S8 will feature a new “slick design,” an improved camera, and an enhanced artificial intelligence service.

The revelation doesn’t give away too much, but there are some things that can be inferred, especially when it comes to the AI stuff.

Samsung recently acquired Viv, an AI platform developed by the team behind Siri and designed to offer a more powerful and adaptable assistant experience.

The ‘next generation’ AI software has been developed to function as a more in-depth assistant than Siri and other AIs, with the ability to respond to complicated, layered questions.

All of which means we could very well see the technology debut on the Galaxy S8, if the recent remarks are anything to go by.

In terms of the improved camera, the Galaxy S7 already has the best smartphone camera available, so we’re intrigued to see what Sammy has up its sleeve this time around.

It’s likely the South Korean firm will add a dual-camera setup to the S8, but at this point, further details are unavailable.

And in terms of the design, once again, the S7 and S7 Edge are two of the best-looking phones on the market, so Samsung’s going to have to pull off some pretty impressive design feats in order to top them.

The S8 is expected to launch in February, at MWC 2017, but recent reports from Korea have suggested Samsung could delay the launch in order to ensure the S8 doesn’t suffer from the same overheating issues as the Note 7.

Whatever the case, there’s sure to be more S8 information coming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for the latest.
