Samsung NX1 lands as new pro-grade camera

Samsung has designs on tackling the pro-grade photography market as the Samsung NX1 is officially unveiled ahead of Photokina 2014.

While the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom’s questionable photographic capabilities did nothing to enhance the company’s reputation, the NX1 is a true powerhouse of the camera industry. Pairing a compact D-SLR body with a 28-megapixel sensor and a 3-inch Super AMOLED display, it is Samsung’s effort at taking the traditionalists away from Canon and Nikon.

With the NX1, we are giving our customers the chance to experience the most advanced photographic innovations within a fast compact system camera (CSC),” Paul Scott, Head of Marketing at Samsung Digital Imaging UK and Ireland said in unveiling the device.

“It’s about giving professional photographers choice and an alternative to the DSLR so they have the ability to take quality images every time they shoot thanks to best-in-class technology.”

Samsung NX1 Features
The interchangeable lens NX1 packs a 28.2-megapixel APS-C BSI CMOS sensor within its sleek, 550g, magnesium alloy body. This sensor is paired with an extended ISO range from 100 to 51,200 to offer impressive shooting conditions in all manner of lighting conditions.

With 15 frames-per-second shooting also thrown into the mix, the NX1 is fast. An OLED electronic viewfinder is present and boasts an Eye Contact Sensor to automatically spring to life when required. Unlike some of its closest rivals, the NX1 also offers both 3D and 4K shooting capabilities. 4K video can be captured at 24fps.

With the 3-inch Super AMOLED display benefitting from a 720 x 480 pixel – 1,036k dot – resolution, users can shoot from multiple angles thanks to 90-degree screen tilt options.

Inbuilt Wi-Fi means shots can instantly be emailed off for editing while a dust and splash resistant coating mean the camera is capable of standing up to the rigours of heavy use.

Samsung NX1 Release Date and Price
Finalised pricing and a Samsung NX1 UK release date are still to be confirmed. That said, Samsung has suggested that the NX1 body will set wannabe owners back £1,299.
