Samsung-made Google Nexus 10 update coming in ‘near future,’ says Android chief

A new version of the Google Nexus 10 tablet is on deck for a launch in the ‘near future,’ Android head Sundar Pichai is reported as saying.

According to Wall Street Journal journalist Amir Efrati, who spoke to Pichai during yesterday’s Android 4.3 event, the update to the Samsung-made device isn’t too far away from joining the new Nexus 7, which was also unveiled on Wednesday.

Efrati tweeted: “Expect to see new 10-inch Nexus 10 Android tablet (made by @Samsung) in the near future, Google’s @sundarpichai tells me.”

The first iteration of the Samsung-made device was launched alongside the original Nexus 7 (made by ASUS) in July last year.

The larger device didn’t quite hit the heights of its multi-award-winning, inexpensive sibling and online chatter about an update has been in short supply in recent months.

As well as the 10-inch, 2560 x 1600 display, the original Nexus 10 arrived packing Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and a powerful Samsung Exynos dual-core 1.7GHz processor.

Any update would likely see a quad-core processor included alongside Android 4.3 out of the box, which is already available for owners of the current device to download.

Would you rather own a new Nexus 10 with the raw Android experience or benefit from the software innovations Samsung has unearthed on its Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab devices?
