Gordon senses a new kind of budget offering.
With monitors having to carrying as many different connection options as your average HD TV these days it is no wonder Samsung has put its foot down and with the ‘940UX’ choosing to go a very different route…
The ‘SyncMaster 940UX’ – to give it its full name (possibly looking like 901B above) – will thumb its nose at both VGA and DVI in favour of the venerable Universal Series Bus, or as we all tend to know it: USB.
So unlike, well… ”every” current display the 940UX will draw all its needs from the CPU rather than the graphics card. The upshot is that systems with integrated graphics get a rest, the downside is system performance could suffer a bit. Of course, this approach could be for budget orientated systems which tend to sell on the back of being advertised with a powerful processor only for the unsuspecting user to then discover elsewhere it has the oomph of an emaciated amoeba.
Other than its unusual connectivity little else is known about the 940UX other than it will be a 19 incher (again hinting at its budget target audience). More details are rumoured to be coming at CeBIT *shudder* so expect more on this front once I touchdown in (s)my least favourite destination on earth(/s) Hannover midway through next month *sniff*.
