Samsung has a team dedicated to producing displays for Apple

Samsung has put together a crack team of display engineers to create screens just for Apple, a new report reveals.

According to Bloomberg, the South Korean tech giant has 200 employees working within the tablet-servicing display group.

These panels, produced solely for Apple, are allegedly heading for use in iPads and MacBooks, which are product categories that Samsung also competes in.

Despite rivalries amongst tech giants, it’s not unusual for manufacturers to trade parts to keep costs down.

LG’s Display division has long provided Apple with materials, and Samsung’s semiconductor spin-off also produces many of the iPhone maker’s mobile chips.

According to the report, Samsung is ‘relying more on its display and semiconductor units’ after a difficult year in which slow Galaxy S5 sales saw the company’s market share drop.

One source claimed that Apple is now the ‘biggest external customer’ for Samsung’s components.

Samsung and Apple have had frosty relations in the past, although both companies recently dropped lawsuits against each other outside of the US.

Jerry Kang, an analyst at IHS Inc. said: “The new exclusive team for Apple implies that the relationship between Samsung and Apple has improved.”

“This also suggests that Samsung Display will win screen orders from Apple, such as for the Apple Watch.”

Samsung is also expected to produce the lion’s share of Apple’s A9 processor chips, after beating out TSCM in the bid to manufacture the units.
