Samsung Gear VR headset to arrive in December?

Samsung’s Virtual Reality headset, the Gear VR, could launch on December 1, according to reports on Monday.

A purported internal training document from Samsung’s customer service department has emerged online apparently showing the planned release date. The document is also said to reveal the price-tag of 200,000 won, which translates to $200 or £124.

The leaked information is in Korean, was posted to the Clien.net site and spotted by the G for Games website.

There’s no telling whether today’s information is legitimate, but Samsung had earlier indicated a pre-Christmas release timescale could be on the agenda.

The Gear VR was detailed at Samsung’s pre-IFA event that also saw the launch of the Galaxy Note 4 handset. It was built with an assist from Oculus, the maker of the Oculus Rift headset.

The Gear VR will allow users to plug in Samsung Galaxy Note 4 handsets in order to gain a virtual reality experience with the device’s stunning QHD display.

The device is likely to launch well before the Oculus Rift hits the consumer market.

The Facebook-owned firm is yet to reveal a release date, but recent reports have suggested a public beta program may open by next summer.
