Samsung Gear S2 price and release date confirmed in the US

The Samsung Gear S2 and its “Classic” brethren will go on sale from Friday in the United States, the firm confirmed on Wednesday.

The new smartwatches will cost $299 and $349 respectively, and will be available via Samsung’s online store. Statesiders will also be able to grab them from Best Buy, Amazon and Macy’s from 2 October.

Unfortunately, there’s no news yet on when everyone else will be able to strap on Samsung’s new and intriguing round-faced smartwatches.

The firm is yet to announce pricing and availability in the UK – or anywhere else beyond the US for that matter. We’ve dropped Samsung a line and will update this story when a response is forthcoming.

The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic, running the Tizen OS, represent Samsung’s best hope to engage smartwatch fanciers.

Both devices feature a new rotating bezel, which can be used to control the user interface, as well as NFC for the new Samsung Pay platform. It’s also the first of the company’s watches to offer support for non-Samsung phones.

The firm claims the watches can offer 2-3 days of battery life, and include an optical heart-rate sensor, wireless charging and IP68 dust- and water-resistance.
