The Samsung Gear Live could be the first Samsung Android Wear watch and be released next month.
We’ve already found out that the first Samsung Android Wear smartwatch will be unveiled at the Google I/O keynote this evening, but a new report claims to have prematurely discovered what it is called.
A Spanish language technology blog that we’re not very familiar with, claims to have found out the Samsung Android Wear device will be called the Samsung Gear Live and will be available to buy from July 7.
As the device will be announced later today, a July 7 release does seem realistic, but of course, we’ll hopefully find out the full details later today.
However, the Spanish source site Alt1040 also unearthed the rumoured specs for the Gear Live along with the name.
According to the report, the Gear Live should feature the same 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display (320 x 320p) as the Samsung Gear 2, but run on a more powerful 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM.
There will reportedly be 4GB of internal storage, as with the Gear 2 and Samsung Gear 2 Neo, with the Gear Live powered by the same measly 300mAh battery.
As with the two Tizen-powered Samsung watches, the Gear Live should also feature the IP67 water and dust resistant certification and the built-in heart rate monitor.
If those specs are correct, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Samsung Android Wear smartwatch looks strikingly similar to the Gear 2 Neo and might even cost the same too.
The source didn’t mention any predicted price, but with the LG G Watch expected to launch with a price tag below £180, Samsung will have to keep to the same price margins in order to compete.
Google should use its I/O keynote to give a lot more information on its Android Wear smartwatch platform, and hopefully flesh out the details on the Motorola Moto 360 and LG G Watch too.
