Samsung Gear A smartwatch confirmed with rotating bezel ring

Since the launch of the Apple Watch, all has been quiet on the Samsung smartwatch front.

However, Samsung has now confirmed that a new wearable is in the works, and will launch it next month.

The South Korean tech giant outed the device at its Tizen Developer Summit 2015, as reported by Sammobile.

The device was revealed to be called the “Gear A”, and will feature a rotating bezel ring that’s been leaked several times over the past few months.

The report also points to Samsung officially unveiling the device at its August 13 event, alongside the expected reveal of two new phablets, rumoured to be the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

So what else do we know about the Gear A?

Previous reports point to an Exynos 3472 dual-core processor with 768MB of memory, 4GB of storage, and a 250mAh battery.

Also tipped to feature are Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, Wi-Fi support, a gyroscope, GPS, a barometer, and a heart rate sensor.

The device is tipped to use a circular 360 x 360 pixel display, which will be surrounded by a movable ring that Samsung describes as a “new interaction type”.

The Gear A will run on Samsung’s custom-built Tizen OS, rather than the more common Google-built Android Wear.
