Finally! Galaxy Tab S3 tablet might be incoming after all

If you’ve been waiting around for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3, we feel your pain. But here’s some potentially exciting news.

The long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablet is going to launch within the next five months, at least according to a new report. Specialist blog Sammobile reports that Samsung is planning to debut the new tablet in the first quarter of 2017, although an exact date isn’t given.

There are a number of prime opportunities to launch a new tablet next year, although two stand out particularly. The first is CES 2017, the Las Vegas tradeshow that will run from January 5 to January 8 next year. The second is MWC 2017, a Barcelona-based conference scheduled for February 27 to March 2. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a new Galaxy Tab launch at either event.

According to today’s report, two different versions of the Galaxy Tab S3 will launch, sporting the model numbers SM-T820 and SM-T825 – denoting Wi-Fi-only and 4G/LTE variants. Unfortunately, specific hardware and pricing details are still unavailable.

The last core entry to the Galaxy Tab series was in September 2015, when the Galaxy Tab S2 was released. Samsung did announce a tablet at CES 2016, although it was the Windows-powered Galaxy TabPro S, rather than the Android slate many were expecting. The Galaxy Tab S3 was then rumoured to debut at MWC 2016, then in summer, then at IFA 2016 in September – none of which came to fruition.

In any case, given Samsung’s lethargic approach to launching a new Tab S device, we wouldn’t get too excited. Although Sammobile has a good track record for Samsung-specific leaks, we can’t verify the information in the report. As such, take this report – and any other leaks – with due caution.

We’ve asked Samsung for comment and will update this article with any response.
