New Samsung tablet leaks, Galaxy Tab S3 incoming? Not quite

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 31

A mystery Samsung tablet has been benchmarked, but it’s not the Galaxy Tab S3 you may have been hoping for.

A Samsung tablet with the previously unseen model number 'SM-T587P' has been benchmarked through Geekbench, revealing a possible new entry to the low-end Galaxy Tab E range. That’ll come as bitter news to those waiting for the flagship Galaxy Tab S3, a goliathan 18 months on from the 2015 launch of the Galaxy Tab S2.

According to the test results, which were first revealed by PhoneArena, the new tablet will feature the following:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip
  • Octa-core CPU (2.02GHz)
  • Adreno 506 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • Android 6.0.1 OS
  • Model number: SM-T587P

Previous Galaxy Tab E series devices have featured the following model numbers: SM-T560, SM-T561, and SM-T567. As such, it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination to suggest that this newly leaked tablet is a follow-on device.

If you are still hanging around for the Galaxy Tab S3, we’ve got bad news: there’s still no word on a release date. Samsung was first expected to drop the new tablet in June or July, via press release. Then, rumours suggested we’d see it launching alongside the Galaxy Note 7 at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on August 2. After the no-show at Unpacked, the Tab S3 was rumoured to appear during Samsung’s press conference at Berlin’s IFA technology tradeshow in September – but there was no mention of the tablet. Sorry, folks.

The tablet market seems to have become very boring. You get some interesting hybrids but for pure tablets there's nothing much in either Android or iOS. Only Windows seems to be progressing tablet tech, and that's once a year.

C'mon! The Tab S2 is a year a half old and a disappointment compared to the Tab S1 and Tab Pro. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is 2 years old and Z4 Tablet is 18 months old.
I get that the market is shrinking, but it's not non-existent. How are there no premium Android tablets on the market!?

The Tab S2 has been updated with a 2016 edition, so the release of the Galaxy tab s3 is more likely to be announced on autumn 2017

Meh, not really an update. Same exact machine but with a Snapdragon 652. It was basically a push. Faster CPU, slower GPU.
Also, not released in all markets. I think it was just a way to offload demand for Samsung SoC's.

I think that everything great about the Note 7 (RIP, sad times) are featured, ie design pen, super amoled, fingerprint, iris (eye) scanner, camera (with the same 12mp camera front and back), curved screen (but with all 4 sides), bluetooth 4.0, 4gb (at least) memory, wifi, expandable mem, 1tb of storage, usb type c and usb type b, etc should be the next tab s3. It should be handheld and should have at least 1 full size usb 2 or even usb 3, preferably more than one usb port. Lte slot (for sim cards).

Oh also IR Blast and FM Transmitter with front, back, all sides speakers

It will be reborn to be a super galaxy tab s3note. I think I am dreaming too much but I think that would be amazing especially for Samsung's rep for the Note 7.

It should pack a bigger safer battery in a better position to you know, not catch on fire/explode.
