Two tablets are rumoured to be on the way from Samsung, one 8.4-inches, the other 10.5-inches, both will have high resolution AMOLED screens and fingerprint scanners.
Both the 8.4 and 10.5-inch models will have two versions, and LTE model and a Wi-Fi only version. SamMobile reports that the firm had wanted 3G versions, but plans for those have been dropped. Model numbers are rumoured to be SM-T700 and SM-T705 for the 8.4-inch Wi-Fi and LTE models, respectively. And SM-T800 and SM-T805 for the 10.5-inch models.
The Tab S will have an 8-megapixel rear camera, along with a 1080p-capable front-facing 2.1-megapixel snapper. Also rumoured is 3GB of RAM and either an octo- or quad-core processor. The processors generally depend on the region and other hardware, like LTE. As you would expect, Wi-Fi is 802.11ac and you’ll find support for Bluetooth LE and Ant for pairing sports fitness trackers – a big part of Samsung’s current push.
But the big news will always be that screen. At 2560 x 1600, it’s the world’s first AMOLED that runs at that resolution. It’s also the first time Samsung has put an AMOLED in its tablets, until now the largest device you could get with AMOLED was the Note 3, and very nice it looks too.
SamMobile suggests that the design will be much like the recently announced Tab 4, so perhaps not an earth-shattering device in stylistic terms, but still a pleasant bit of design.
