Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook launched in the US

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook has been officially announced at a special event in the US.

Following an extensive teaser trailer and previous confirmations from both companies, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is now official for US markets.

Touted as the first “full-featured Android tablet designed for reading”, the Tab 4 Nook comes pre-installed with Barnes & Noble’s Nook Store, rather than Google Play or the Samsung Hub.

It will retail for just $179 (£108) in the US, but will over $200 (£120) worth of free Nook content for users to get their teeth into from the get go.

With every purchase you’ll get a selection of free goodies, including copies of Freakonomics, The Wandered and I am Number Four, trial subscriptions of Sports Illustrated and Cosmo and free TV show episodes like Veep and Orphan Black.

Aside from the Samsung TouchWiz UI being stripped back in favour of the Barnes & Noble software, the Tab 4 Nook is exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0.

That means you’d get a 7-inch 1280 x 800p HD resolution display with a 216ppi image density, which is perfect for reading books.

Running on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, you get a 3-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera set.

One of its mean appeals is the fact it is little bigger than your standard eReader, such as the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite or Nook GlowLight. It measures up at just 8.9mm thick for example.
