Samsung Galaxy S7 could see the return of microSD

Does the Galaxy S7 need a microSD slot?

Despite its diminutive size, the microSD slot is one of the most controversial smartphone components.

The debate looks set to continue however, as Samsung’s abandonment of the microSD slot on 2015’s flagship smartphones could be reversed next year.

A new report suggests the South Korean tech giant will bring back the card slot with the Samsung Galaxy S7.

That’s according to HDBlog.it – take the report with a pinch of salt, as we can’t verify the claims.

MicroSD slots give smartphone users the advantage of being able to endlessly expand their storage.

However, microSD cards are much slower than built-in flash storage, which means it’s better for performance to store your files internally.

Some argue that microSD slots allow manufacturers to skimp on built-in storage, which is already notoriously costly.

Samsung didn't include the feature on the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, or Galaxy S6 Edge+, disappointing some users.

Unfortunately, there’s no right answer when it comes to the question of whether to include a microSD card – it’s really down to user preference.

The report also suggests that the Galaxy S7 will feature a 5.2-inch flat display.

There’s also a claim that the Galaxy S7 Edge will boast a bigger 5.7-inch curved screen.
