Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition coming in time for Rio 2016

It’s all but confirmed that Samsung is releasing a special edition Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Samsung has already made headlines in recent months for its Batman-themed Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Now it appears to be preparing another heroic effort in time for next month’s Rio Olympics.

Evan Blass, whom you may know as @evleaks, has posted an official-looking render of the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition.’

As you can see, it’s essentially Samsung’s beautiful flagship phone with gold detailing around the home buttons and earpiece and blue detailing around the camera module. You also get that distinctive Olympic rings motif on the back.

It seems as if the Olympic symbol will also appear when you boot up the phone, if this image is anything to go by.

This isn’t the biggest surprise in the world. Samsung has form with releasing Olympic editions of its Galaxy S line, and SamMobile reported that this latest version was in the works several months ago.

We also know that the 2016 Olympics will be partially filmed in VR, and that Samsung will play a major part in that. Expect to see a couple of related Gear VR apps.

We haven’t heard anything official from Samsung on this new hardware yet, but with the Rio Olympics set to kick off on August 5 (just over a month away), we’d guess that we won’t have long to wait.
