Samsung Galaxy S7 battery life could massively outstrip iPhone 6S

Battery life is a pain point for mobile manufacturers the world over, so here’s some good news…

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone could have a class-leading battery life, according to new reports.

Prolific tipster and journalist Eldar Murtazin claims the Samsung Galaxy S7 will boast an impressive 17 hours of video playback – at full brightness.

That’s a whopping feat, and steps all over rival devices, including the existing Samsung Galaxy S6 (rated by Samsung at 13 hours).

The iPhone 6S, meanwhile, is rated by Apple for 11 hours of HD video playback.

Here’s the tweet in question:

The translation (courtesy of Bing) is: Galaxy s7 plays video 17 + hours with maximum illumination. Record for this class of devices.

But what could cause such a lofty leap in charge retention? There are a few possible solutions.

One is a bigger battery; recent leaks suggest Samsung will opt for a 3,000mAh cell this time around, moving up from the previous phone’s 2,550mAh battery.

It’s also likely Samsung will opt for a much more efficient processor – although it’s not clear whether that will be a custom-built Exynos chip, or Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820.

And then there’s the operating system: with a battery-friendly Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and optimisations to TouchWiz, there are assured savings to be made in terms of efficiency.

Whatever the solution, many consumers will welcome a phone will boosted battery life.
