Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Forget about the Note 5, because there’s a far more interesting Samsung phablet headed for UK shores.

Samsung has just announced the Galaxy S6 Edge+, following weeks of seemingly endless rumours.

It’s a sized-up version of this year’s Galaxy S6 Edge, and comes with boosted specs that put it on a par with the newly announced Note 5.

“Today the journey continues in the larger screen category that Samsung created,” says J K Shin, Samsung’s boss of mobile.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ features

The S6 Edge+, true to tablet form, has a large 5.7in Quad HD display, with a 518ppi pixel density.

It’s powered by Samsung’s custom-built 64-bit Exynos 7420 chip, which has eight processor cores.

The chip is built using an advanced 14nm manufacturing process, which means it offers impressive performance and power efficiency.

It’s also the same processor that appeared on this year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Other features include 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32/64GB storage options, specifically Samsung’s ultra-fast UFS 2.0 storage.

Photography comes courtesy of a 16-megapixel OIS-enhanced rear-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter to boot.

The S6 Edge+ has a 3,000mAh battery that, when paired with the efficient processor, should proffer a respectable charge life.

Also making an appearance is Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi, Cat. 9 LTE support, and a raft of sensors including an accelerometer, gyroscope and fingerprint scanner.

The handset is a svelte affair, with a feathery 153g weight and only a 6.9mm-thick profile.

“At Samsung, we’re committed to offering our customers a best-in-class technology experience, providing the ultimate on-the-go, immersive, multimedia-viewing experience,” says Andy Griffiths, Samsung’s UK & Ireland president.

He adds: “The launch of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ delivers on this promise. Combining the world’s first dual-edge display with a range of intuitive features and an incredibly vivid, large screen. We’re re-emphasising our ongoing commitment to bold, fearless innovation that meets the needs of today’s consumers.”

Samsung says its Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be available globally in August, but it won’t land in the UK until 4 September, TrustedReviews has learned. Pricing is set at £699.99 SIM-free for the 32GB model, as revealed by Mobile Fun.

What’s more, if you buy the S6 Edge+ before the end of September, you’ll also receive a free six-month subscription to Google Play Music.

It’s worth noting that the new Galaxy Note 5 won’t be coming to the UK, so the S6 Edge+ is your only chance in Blighty to grab a new Samsung tablet this year.
