Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge prices leak

One area the joint Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge announcement didn't address was price, but that seems to have slipped out through other means.

Samsung announced two of its most exciting smartphones in years on Sunday evening in the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. However, the company failed to mention how much they'd cost, which has led to worries that Samsung's new focus on premium design would come at a steep cost.

Those fears seem to have been proved well founded, according to SamMobile. The Samsung blog claims to have heard the official pricing straight from the mouths of Samsung officials at MWC 2015.

Apparently the Samsung Galaxy S6 will start at €699 for the 32GB model, moving on to €799 for the 64GB version and €899 for the 128GB model. Those are iPhone 6 prices, though it should be noted that the entry-level Galaxy offers 32GB of storage compared to the iPhone 6's meagre 16GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is considerably more expensive again. It starts with the 32GB model at €849, while the 64GB version will be €949, and the 128GB model will be an eye-watering €1049. That's more expensive than the iPhone 6 Plus range, with the 64GB Apple model costing €899.

It seems as if you'll have to pay more than any other mainstream smartphone for Samsung's dual-curved display on the Galaxy S6 Edge. Both Galaxy S6 phones are set to launch on April 10.

Ridiculous, they are all €200 over priced at launch!

Tim Cook must laughing his ass off if this is true

How much!, overpriced. How many people will use all the so called features. There will be plenty of good handsets out there to take away the shine. Samsung is going into Apple overpriced territory.

Now, you see, that's not annoying, its helpful. Now that the price is so ridiculous, I can discount the possibility of me ever buying one of these and can look elsewhere. Samsung seems to think competing with Apple means matching their prices, I suspect they are for a bad year, a curved display is nice, but not enough to justify these prices.

The Chinese are coming and getting better all the time.

Spot on, the others are coming.. Initially there may be a surge in sales but I think they will dwindle. I hope Motorola, OneplusOne etc will come up with great handsets. Also would be interesting to see what LG come up with. The consumer buys a premium handset with metal and glass, then buys a case to cover most of it to protect the device......lol

It's not clear from this brief hands-on video what is really useful or special about the curved display, other than some limited notification functionality. Is there more to it than this? I'd hoped it would offer some significant additional functionality, especially given the price hike over the standard S6.

smells like another lustful iPhone victory

Good luck with that!

Edit: having watched the video, I see that the Edge feature lets you identify callers when the phone is upside down, by the colour of light leaking from the side. Personally, I just leave my phone with the screen facing up, but you never know, it might prove to be a killer app.

Was going to get one but after seeing the price...

900 Euros for 128gb version is ridiculous......

Then again, the iPhone 6 128gb version is £700, so with some retailer discounting, it's likely to be a comparable price.

Still a complete rip price though for a phone (both Apple and Samsung).

I wonder if that only works when you use the Touchwizz launcher as well...

Samesung are just a joke these days. I hope they eventually go bust, I hate them as much as Apple. Go the Chinese I say.

The S series died with the S5.

The S6 is an iPhone knock off, I don't even like Apple but I am actually tempted to buy an iPhone now as I am so angry at Samsung.

Super expensive, non removable battery, no expanding memory, finger print scanner that you don't need to swipe, metal body, glass back.....errrmmm.....isn't this just an iPhone 5s with a 2k screen? Well done samsung, you've just lost every customer that hated apple and loved samsung! Haha!
