Samsung Galaxy S6 Active to revive microSD and removable battery?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will ship with an integrated microSD port, new reports suggest.

According to a Reddit user, who claims to have spoken to a Samsung rep about the handset, Samsung plans to rebundle the feature on its S6 spin-off device.

Unless you’ve been hiding away from tech news under a rock these past few weeks, you won’t have missed the furore over Samsung dropping a microSD slot on both of its latest flagships.

While the Android manufacturer has typically shipped smartphones with microSD functionality, it was eschewed on both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

While the microSD jettisoning didn’t perturb most users, the outspoken few were angry that Samsung would drop what has traditionally been a staple of the Android platform.

Apple, by comparison, has never included a microSD port on any of its iPhone handsets, with users instead having to rely on non-expandable integrated flash storage.

Moreover, the new rumours also suggest that Samsung will make the battery on the Active removable, another feature sorely missed on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The Galaxy S6 Active is widely tipped to land as a more ruggedised version of its predecessors.

This means it will boast a thicker 8.8mm chassis – that’s compared to the S6’s slim 6.8mm profile.

There will also reportedly be a battery increase, with the Active carrying a 3500mAh unit compared to the S6’s 2550mAh battery.

According to the Reddit user’s source, the device will boast some new phsyical buttons, a lower-class camera, and won’t ship with a fingerprint scanner or hearbeat sensor.

It’s not yet clear when Samsung plans to release the Galaxy S6 Active, although some suggest we’ll see it before the year is out.
