Samsung Galaxy S6 Active

Samsung’s ruggedized flagship spinoff has been confirmed, with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active unveiled in the US.

Debuted courtesy of American network provider AT&T, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active pairs the flagship Galaxy S6’s high-end specs sheet with a new robust, water resistant body.

Tipped as a “sleek and durable smartphone designed for the active lifestyle”, the S6 Active has done array with some of its sibling’s premium styling, instead playing host to an IP68 certified form.

This shock-proof body means the phone can be submerged in 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes without concern.

The phone’s even been given an outdoorsy finish, with the handset to be offered up in Camo White, Camo Blue and Grey colour schemes.

Unlike Samsung’s past ‘Active’-branded spinoffs, the S6 Active plays host to the same impressive array of innards as its market-leading sibling.

Pairing a 5.1-inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD display with a 16-megapixel, OIS-enhanced camera, the device is powered by a 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor and runs Google’s Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS direct from the box.

Further Galaxy S6 Active features given the nod include 32GB of internal storage, a massive 3,500mAh battery and a new ‘Activity Zone’ software pack which sees a digital compass, torch and stopwatch all come preinstalled.

Available on a number of contract plans, the handset will be available to customers through AT&T from June 12. There is currently no official word on UK launch plans.

We have contacted Samsung for details on when – or indeed if – the S6 Active will be hitting our fair shores.
