Samsung Galaxy S5 update offers improved camera speeds

The first Samsung Galaxy S5 update has been released, with the flagship handset adding improved camera speeds and more accurate fingerprint scanning to the mix.

Having launched last month following an MWC 2014 unveiling, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has already gained a sales advantage over the rival HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2, with the new S5 update further improving the Galaxy S4 follow-on.

Filtering out to S5 owners as we type, the Galaxy S5 update is already available to some UK users, with the free to download firmware fix reportedly allowing the phone’s camera and gallery apps to launch with less delay.

While we are still waiting to add the S5 update to our sample device, SamMobile has suggested that the patch also offers a range of RAM management improvements to improve the phone’s overall speed.

Available as an over-the-air patch, the Samsung Galaxy S5 update is downloadable through the phone’s Kies menus.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has followed the iPhone 5S in adding an integrated fingerprint scanner within its physical home button.

Having experienced slight consistency issues with this feature during our S5 review, we are eager to see how the update has improved the biometric sensor. Stay tuned for all our findings.
