Samsung Galaxy S5 update brings performance improvements

A new Samsung Galaxy S5 update has started to roll out, bringing a range of performance improvements to European handsets.

Having started to filter out to unlocked handsets across Europe today, July 23, the latest Samsung Galaxy S5 update brings a number of small, behind the scenes tweaks which the Korean manufacturer has claimed will offered an ‘improved performance’.

An over-the-air patch, the latest S5 update comes under the moniker of firmware version XXU1ANG2 and is based on the handset’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat foundations.

With Samsung yet to detail the exact nature of the proposed performance improvements, the two-stage update sees a 194MB update followed by a second, smaller, 1MB download.

If you’re yet to see the latest S5 update pop-up on your handset, worry not. These things often take a number of days to filter through to all compatible devices, while handsets tied to a specific network are likely to face a more sizeable wait.

The Galaxy S5 is Samsung’s latest flagship phone, pairing a 5.1-inch, 1080p Full HD display with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM.

Although having disappointed many with its plastic build, the S5 features a handy waterproof coating and a heart rate sensor built directly into the phone’s rear.
