New Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours have emerged, with the next-generation flagship phone tipped to host an LCD screen instead of the company’s usual AMOLED offerings.
With Samsung’s recent flagship phones having sported AMOLED displays, latest reports out of the company’s native Korea have claimed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 will instead sport an LCD panel to keep costs low.
Although an LCD screen would help lower production costs of the Samsung Galaxy S5, a move that would open up the possibility of Samsung introducing a new metal form factor while maintaining similar profit margins, the panel would not support as deep a blacks as its AMOLED counterpart.
While AMOLED panels have improved dramatically in recent years, Samsung’s phones have often come under fire for slightly artificially looking colours. It is expected that a move to a number LCD display would help address this.
With Samsung having earlier this year teased that its upcoming flagship phones could benefit from Super AMOLED panels with 2K resolutions, we suggest these latest Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours are taken with a considerable pinch of salt.
Recent Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours have suggested that the much mooted handset will be formally unveiled during the first quarter of 2014 alongside a second-generation Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Further reports have tipped the iPhone 5S rival to boast a 64bit processor, 3GB of RAM and an all new metal form factor tasked with bringing it in line with the rival HTC One.
