The S4 Mini could soon be superseded

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini has been teased by Samsung itself, with the compact Galaxy S5 spinoff seemingly set to feature a waterproof build.

Taking design pointers off its big brother, the IP67 certified S5, the currently unconfirmed Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini has been referenced in a Samsung New Zealand warranty support document. The phone’s water resistant capabilities are also noted.

According to screen grabs of the Samsung document – which has since been amended to remove reference of the upcoming phone – the S5 Mini will be capable of being submerged in up to a metre of water for as much as 30 minutes without suffering damage.

Teasing further details of the previously rumoured phone, the Galaxy S5 Mini will reportedly play host to the same USB covering plug and watertight removable back panel as the S5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Active before it.

Earlier this month claimed Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini specs leaked, with the spinoff device set to be something of an on-paper disappointment when compared with its market-leading brethren, but a notable step up on last year’s Galaxy S4 Mini.

According to the claims, the S5 Mini will play host to a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 720p HD display.

With an 8-megapixel camera touted for inclusion alongside a secondary, 2-megapixel snapper up front, further S5 Mini rumours have suggested a Snapdragon CPU, 16GB of internal storage and 1.5GB of RAM are expected to feature.

As well as capable of being submerged in water, an IP67 rating would mean the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini would be dust proof – a feature which should make those summer time trips to the beach a little less tech troubling.

There is currently no word on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini release date, although reports last week suggested a Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom – or Galaxy K – handset could land before the end of the month.

4.5" screen is right for a mini, I hope they give the processor some oomph though.
I'm using an S5 pro temp at the moment and really miss the menu button, if it's not coming back then (for me) the Sony Compact will have as much, if not more allure, particularly in the pricing department.

Sorry! Can't resist this, If it leaks, that's not much of a waterproof body is it?
