Samsung Galaxy S4 UK models to receive quad-core processor not octa-core

Samsung Galaxy S4 UK models will no longer feature the previously stated eight-core processor, instead dropping down to a quad-core CPU, the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed.

Previously listed as play host to an eight-core 1.6GHz Exynos 5 octa-core processor, Samsung has today revealed that UK Samsung Galaxy S4 owners will miss out on the handset’s eight-core CPU, a feature which is still set to land for certain markets.

Having announced at launch that the handset’s processor would vary between markets, the manufacturer had previously stated that the UK would benefit from the eight-core Samsung Galaxy S4 offering, a device that would have seen four large cores paired with four small cores for improved battery management.

“Samsung Galaxy S 4 is equipped with a 1.9GHz Quad-core AP or a 1.6GHz Octa-core AP. The selection of AP varies by markets,” a statement from an official Samsung spokesperson to TrustedReviews said. It went on to reveal: “In the UK the Galaxy S4 will be available as a 4G device with a 1.9GHz Quad Core Processor.”

Although Samsung has yet to offer any reasoning behind the back tracking of its octa-core promise just days after the formal Samsung Galaxy S4 unveiling, the news will come as a serious blow to expectant consumers across the UK.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs

Despite having lost its eight-core processor showpiece, the Samsung Galaxy S4 specs sheet still features a raft of high-end components with a 5-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display lining up alongside Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 features list further benefitting from a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and second 2-megapixel snapper up front, the handset also hosts 2GB of RAM and the option of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options within its 7.9mm thick form factor.

Does the lack of an eight-core CPU put you off the Samsung Galaxy S4 or are you still tempted by the S3 follow-on? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.

This is embarrassing! the "best device" mean't to be for 2013 with terrible 2012 GPU! Adreno 320 graphics are terrible. iPhone 5 GPU already destroys Adreno 320 already. so iPhone 5S & iPhone 6 GPU will totally embarrass the GPU in the S4. Samsung will release the Octa Core with the Great PowerVR SGX544MP3 Graphics in Korea to suit them. but it will only backfire on them cause now Every 2013 device will have alot better GPU than S4. cause where every 2013 device will have new GPU S4 will have a terrible 2012 GPU. I am so disappointed. I was going to buy the S4 cause I was so excited to get the Octa Core with the fast graphics. But now I'm not away to pay £529 for a shitty Only Snapdragon 600 with terrible Graphics. if it was the Snapdragon 800 yeah. but I'm not buying the S4 with that CPU & GPU. now Samsung will lose alot of buyers for that and I HOPE THEY DO. Apple will be laughing and so they should be cause Galaxy S4 was mean't to be best 2013 device but its coming with 2012 GPU! If i was LG, And Especially Apple I'd be laughing. can't wait for LG Optimus G2.

Thanks Mikey. It really sounds like we're getting screwed. Samsung better make this well known to the public in the UK. Show the world awesome specs then quiety change them. Seriously reconsidering getting one. I do understand the the supply concept but honestly we all know the UK is a big fan of the S3 and this is how they thank us.... I would love to know how many preorders get cancelled because of this, I hope it is a lot!

Seriously pissed off at this I was so looking forward to this phone because of the Octo-core Processor but now it's not so appealing. The fact that it was supposed to come out in the UK with the Octo-core is another thing. I am seriously disappointed in Samsung and they should seriously rethink this and release the Octo-core Version in the UK. We are Massive fans of Samsung as well and this is how they treat us, by putting us in with mediocre components. I may as well just stick with apple then, at least they give a crap about the UK.
Pull it together Samsung and give us our 8 cores or I am looking forward to North Korea making you there bitch.

Ah, the old bait & switch tactics. This will probably have considerable PR blow back. Still, one 1.9GHz core is enough to run things smoothly so who cares if you've got a spare 3 or 7? The older GPU is a let down for a 'flagship' product. Samsung are dropping the ball. Temporary monopolies. Who's up next?

Typical, UK consumers maximize corporations' profits and get less value for money - if we make no stand we will always be milked. Why does the US consumer get greater value - they vote with the wallet and boycott suppliers. Wonder if there will be differential pricing as well as differential specification across regions. I'm voting with my wallet, going for better value for money with another manufacturers product...thanks for highlighting

Well, Samsung have learnt that they can make a lot of money selling cheap plastic to the UK buyer,.. So not sure what you expected.. Ok, only joking before I get bombarded with a spec sheet.

Yeah mate we are getting screwed big time man! If UK do end up getting the Snapdragon 600 then Samsung will lose alot of buyers. because the Snapdragon 600 has a terrible GPU the Adreno 320 is so slow its a year outdated its shit GPU man, the Octa Core GPU is alot better. well the S4 already has QuadRuple pre orders already, the S4 pre-orders are already 3x times as much the pre-orders were for the S3. Don't take this the wrong way mate but i'm helping you here, if UK does get the Snapdragon 600 version and you buy it then your stupid mate cause S4 will be about 500 and I wouldn't pay 500 for a phone with a shitty slow year outdated GPU. I was going to pre-order S4 untill I heard UK can be getting changed to Snapdragon 600 version and if when the S4 does come out in UK and if it does have the Snapdragon 600 version I'm not buying it. cause iPhone 5 already has a better GPU than the Snapdragon 600 version, and it's obvious iPhone 5s & iPhone 6 will have amazing GPU. so I'm waiting to see what version we get. but by the looks if it I'm not getting the S4 cause seemingly Samsung has already confirmed UK will get 600 version but I Emailed Samsung UK and they said as far as they are aware of UK is still getting Octa Core. so I'm going to wait and see =)

Just found a tidbit.A lot of rumours say UK will get both variants. But here is a kicker if you want 4G (LTE) capability it seems your only choice is the Quad Core.

The Exynos doesn't seem to support it, I've seen comments about this on SamMobile and found this
