Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update coming next month

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will receive an Android 4.3 update in the coming weeks, the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed.

Making the announcement during its IFA 2013 Mobile Unpacked press conference, Samsung confirmed that an Android 4.3 Samsung Galaxy S4 update will be rolled out in October, with the flagship smartphone also set to gain compatibility with the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

While the newly confirmed Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will come pre-installed with the latest Android release when it touches down later this year, Samsung has confirmed it will look to bring its older devices in line, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 also set to get in on the latest Jelly Bean act.

Earlier this week Google officially announced that Android 4.4 would be known as Kit Kat. Despite making the announcement, the software’s features have yet to be detailed and it is not currently available on any products.

Adding Galaxy Gear compatibility to the S4 will enable owners of Samsung’s latest high-end handset to pair their devices with the upcoming techy timepiece.

Pre-empting the arrival of the mooted Apple iWatch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear boasts a 1.63-inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 320 pixel resolution. The smart wrist wear adds an 800MHz processor alongside Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Syncing wirelessly with your smartphone, the Android based watch will offer a range of notifications and alerts direct to your wrist and can be filled with a selection of fitness and communication apps. It features integrated speakers, 4GB of storage and an inbuilt 1.9-megapixel camera housed within the strap.
