The Galaxy S3 has a good camera but a modded version of the app can make video quality even better.

Samsung Galaxy S3 users who have rooted their shiny new phone can now raise the video recording spec from 19 Megabits per second to 24Mbps in Fine mode or an impressive 30Mbps in Superfine mode.

Those settings apply to its 1080p operation. The stock camera for Samsung’s new flagship can also shoot in 720p resolution.

However, the tweak, which was released by the custom ROM developer hyperX, can also improve the quality of 720p video on the phone from 10Mbps to 15Mbps in Fine and all the way up to 19Mbps in Superfine.

Audio is captured at 192Kbps across all modes, and hyperX is working on adding a 60 frames-per-second option, according to the release notes on the download page.

The modification enables you to use the camera when the battery is below 15 per cent, which is prevented by default on the phone. It also allows you to shoot a photo using the volume up/down controls while on a phone call.
