Samsung has officially unveiled the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, the baby version of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone.

We use the term baby for a reason as the Galaxy S3 mini isn't just a smaller version of the S3 but a less powerful one too. As well as the screen being smaller it also has a lower resolution, down from 720 x 1280 to 480 x 800. What's more the camera, processor and battery have all had a bit of downgrade, firmly placing this as a mid-range phone. Also missing is 4G connectivity. The full Samsung Galaxy S3 mini specs are below.

Otherwise the mini retains the Galaxy S3's smooth white and silver styling with a removable plastic back and lots of rounded corners and edges. With the smaller 4in design this should make for a comfortable, easy to use phone, unlike its finger-stretching big brother, which some people find too large.

“The award winning Galaxy S III has been extremely well received globally since it launched earlier this year so we are thrilled to be able to offer our customers the same revolutionary design, intuitive usability and intelligence in a mini version..” said Simon Stanford, Vice President, Telecommunications & Networks Division, Samsung UK and Ireland.

Shipping with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out the box, the S3 mini will be right up to date with the latest version of Android. It will also feature Samsung's TouchWiz software enhancements including the S Voice digital personal assistant, Smart Stay which tracks the users eyes and ensures the screen stays on when they're still looking and Direct Call which lets you start a phone call with a contact just by picking the phone up when reading a message from them.

We're still waiting for details regarding pricing and availability.

So what do you think? Excited by the S3 mini or were you hoping for something a bit more powerful? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments below.
