Samsung Galaxy S range tops 100m unit sales

As the Samsung Galaxy S3 continues to outperform the iPhone 5, Samsung has revealed that its flagship Samsung Galaxy S line has topped the 100 million unit sales milestone.

Led largely by the current Samsung Galaxy S3 and its Samsung Galaxy S2 predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S range has topped 100m unit sales marker, just months ahead of the eagerly awaited next addition to the range, the repeatedly rumoured Samsung Galaxy S4.

“Global channel sales of the company’s flagship smartphone, Galaxy S III and its two predecessors Galaxy S and Galaxy S II have surpassed 100 million units sales as of January 13, 2013,” an official Samsung spokesperson said. “Samsung Galaxy smartphones are intuitive and easy to use, display photos and videos on dazzling screens, and deliver a premium user experience with a design that is elegant and feels natural.”

A subset of the larger handset and tablet incorporating Samsung Galaxy range, the lofty milestone has been hit just over two and a half years after the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy S branded device, with Samsung revealing that 40 million of these sales can be credited to the Samsung Galaxy S2, a true iPhone rivalling handset which the Korean manufacturer has dubbed the “driving force” behind its “rise to the top of the global smartphone market.”

With the HTC and Nokia rival confirming that Samsung Galaxy S3 sales have already topped the 40 million unit marker, just seven months after launch, the latest figures equate to a staggering 190,000 of the Android powered quad-core handsets sold per day.

“Galaxy S III has now passed the mark of 40 million unit channel sales,” and unnamed company representative said. “It revolutionized the user experience, and was critically acclaimed, achieving 20 million global channel sales in just 100 days – which made it Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone yet.”

News of Samsung’s latest sales figures come as reports suggested Apple has slowed production of the iPhone 5 amid poor consumer interest, highlighting Samsung’s recent and rapid rise to dominance in the smartphone sector.
