An Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Note has been leaked, ahead of the official release.

Samsung has confirmed that a Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Note is on the way, but no official releases are available in the UK at this time.

The exact ROM version that has surfaced online is Jelly Bean 4.1.1, and it is available online now, as Android Authority reports. However, unless you're a real techie you're best off waiting for the official release - due in the coming weeks, although no firm date has been announced.

A video showing the giant smartphone running Android 4.1.2 has also just been posted online, suggesting that Samsung intends to skip version 4.1.1 in its official Samsung Galaxy Note firmware release. The video's blurb claims that the firmware is the "official" version, with the code N7000XXLS3.

At present, the Samsung Galaxy Note is stuck with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, although numerous unofficial ROMs are floating about online.

The Samsung Galaxy Note got its first direct successor just recently, in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It improved upon the original design with a larger screen, less wide body and more powerful processor.

After initially seeming a rather niche idea, the Note series has proved a surprising commercial success. The first Note has sold more than 10 million units worldwide, and the second racked-up three million sales in just over a month.

Whether the Samsung Galaxy Note's official update jumps to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, the phone is likely to miss out on the updates included in Android Jelly Bean 4.2. These include Photo Sphere and multiple user accounts.
