This Galaxy Note 6 launch date is looking seriously likely

Samsung is nearly ready to kick off production for its next flagship phablet – the Galaxy Note 6 (or Note 7?) – according to a new report.

The new Galaxy Note will enter mass-production in July, with plans for an initial run of 5 million phones by August. That’s the claim made by South Korea’s ET News, which cites an unnamed industry source. The report reads:

“Samsung Electronics has started ordering parts to start producing its new Galaxy Note next month. Samsung Electronics is going to produce 2.5 million phones in July and, in August, a total of 5 million phones.”

According to the source, Samsung is planning a Galaxy Unpacked event in New York for August 2. This falls in line with previous leaks we’ve seen. Interestingly, the source claims that Samsung will begin selling the Galaxy Note 6 as soon as it’s announced. Typically, Samsung delays the release date for a short time after Note device reveals, but the source says the new strategy “is to have consumers’ early interests lead to actual purchase”.

If the Galaxy Note 6 does launch on August 2, it could take a bite out of Apple’s profits, as prospective iPhone buyers may turn to Samsung’s first-to-market device. However, bear in mind that we can’t verify the legitimacy of this report, so take these new details with due caution.

It’s also rumoured that Samsung plans to incorporate a dual curved-edge OLED display on the Galaxy Note 6. It’s said that this will be the only version of the phone, i.e. there won’t be a traditional flat-display variant.

Samsung has had an impressive year so far, with its new Galaxy S7 receiving critical acclaim. Estimates put second quarter sales of the phone at around 15 million units globally, so it’s no surprise that hype is already building for the next Samsung device.
