The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is official and it has the LG G3 in its sights, landing with a 5.7-inch QHD display.
Pairing its 2560 x 1440 pixel Super AMOLED display with a bevy of high-end innards and a premium metal design, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a serious sign of intent from the Korean manufacturer to rectify its ailing smartphone efforts.
The Note 4 has been unveiled during Samsung’s IFA 2014 press conference, landing alongside the identically specced, but curved screen added Samsung Galaxy Edge.

Not content with upping the phone’s visual performance, Samsung has refreshed under the hood too. The Note 4 is powered by the latest 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage are also thrown into the mix alongside microSD expansion.
Taking design pointers from the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Alpha, the Note 4 boasts a premium, metal frame. This high-end design shows a serious mark of intent from the Korean manufacturer to rectify one of its longstanding shortcomings.
On the camera front the Note 4 has made the jump to a 16-megapixel primary camera alongside a 3.7-megapixel secondary snapper up front. More than megapixels, however, the phone’s main camera has been enhanced by the addition of optical-image-stabilisation, while the selfie snapper has a new wide-angle lens – ideal for group shots.
A Note wouldn’t be a Note without the S-Pen, and the Note 4 has serious improvements here too. Doubling the sensitivity of its stylus, the Note 4 S-Pen now offers 2048dps. New software features have been introduced to make use of this, with improved note taking and annotation options joining the fray.
For those concerned that the jump to a QHD display means appalling battery life, worry not. The Note 4 packs a 3220mAh Lithium-Ion battery. According to Samsung this means the phone is good for 20 hours ‘standard use’ on a single charge. Although nightly charges will be required, the Korean manufacturer has fitted the Note 4 with quick charge capabilities. As a result, a 50 per cent charge can be achieved in just 30 minutes.
The Note 4 lines up at 8.5mm thick and will land in four colours, black, white, gold and ‘blossom pink’. The handset also feature the same fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor as found on the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Release Date and Price
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date is the remaining big unknown. Samsung has confirmed that the device will touch down later this year, but offered no more precise timeframe for the phone’s arrival.
Similarly, a Note 4 price is still unclear. However, given the phone’s metal build, QHD display and market-leading specs sheet, don’t expect it to be too easy on your wallet.
